Young Man who promised to walk from Lagos to Abuja if General Buhari wins already in Niger State

I came across this interesting story online

Suleiman Hashimu or ‘The traveller’ as I prefer to call him is an indigene of Katsina state, Funtua to be precise. He was born in Osun state but lives in Ibadan.

The traveler promised two years ago to walk from where ever he is to the capital of Nigeria, Abuja if General Muhammadu Buhari wins the election in 2015. BBC Hausa, Voice of America and Aminiya (a Hausa mgazine) interviewed him. He was in Lagos when Buhari was declared the President-elect of Nigeria. He left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived Ibadan around 6pm.
He went to get a police report to allow for the smoothness of his journey but couldn’t wait and so, the D.P.O. gave him his phone number. Despite several discouragement from friends and at the same time, inspiration from friends and loved ones; he continued from Ibadan to Oyo. Then from Oyo to Ogbomoso.; And from Ogbomoso to Ilorin with much hospitality at every stop.

At Ilorin, some people escorted him for some miles and he stopped at Oloru. Oloru, to border’n Sa’ada and then to Jebba. He received so much hospitality from Jebba and unlike other villages he met a lot of people who had heard of the traveller. About 20 people set off with him from Jebba and after some miles, about 18 went back but the remaining two where determined. They met with armed robbers close to Makwa and luckily, he already met one of them in Jebba and he even gave him 200 Naira for pure water. The robber told his colleagues that he was going to see Buhari and he gave him 2000 Naira and then slapped the two men with him.

He continued his journey from Mkwa to Kudu and then to Kutigi. He is currently in Kutigi and will continue his journey to Bida tomorrow by the grace of God.

I asked him about his encounter with the different people and he said it was remarkable. Actually he gets more determined to move on from the people. He was even treated like a King in a village in Niger.

They sang tribal songs he didn’t understand and travellers stop to provide him with food and company along the way. Most of them are familiar with him because they travel the same route daily. Sometimes up to 10 cars would stop to converse with him. News travelled with the public transports to different places on his route and people from several cities, towns and villages on his route would call to check up on him and inquire about his journey.

He doesn’t know for sure if Buhari knows of him but several of his support organizations do. He intends to reach Abuja by 27th of May and celebrate with the new president at his inauguration ceremony.

Surprise : Arsene Wenger sign Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil for €50 million

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has decided to join the big spenders since he cant beat them. He announced club record signing of  €50 million on Real madrid and German 24 years old midfielder Mesut Ozil on the end of the summer transfer window.

Ozil reacted angrily to being substituted by Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti in the Liga win over Granada last Monday, storming straight into the changing room and heading straight for the team bus. He was then left out of the XI which beat Athletic Bilbao 3-1 on Sunday, prompting speculation over his future.

In a statement on his personal Facebook page, Ozil said: "Things developed differently than I would have expected them to a few days ago.

"Thank you very much for three wonderful years with all of you. My time at Real Madrid was unique and special for me.

"Although I’m leaving Real Madrid, I wish you and the team the very best for the future. Now I’m looking forward to my new club: THE GUNNERS!"

Ozil had stated publicly last week that he loved Real Madrid and was happy to stay at the club but he now begins his career as  Arsenal highest signing of all time.

2face speaks on his career, marriage and plans to go back to school to study law

Innocent Idibia popularly known as Tuface Idibia in an interview with Sam Umokoro talks about his music, marriage, kids and plans for his education.

On why he chose the name, 2Face?
According to the artistes, it is a way of letting his fans know that his public and private lives are two separate entities. So the Tuface they see in the public, on TV, in papers, and hear on the radio is the public figure, who is different from who he really is.
We can say it's a case of Tuface(the star) and Innocent (the man).
Continue to read more ...

On being a "player":
"If I were a player, they wouldn’t have caught me like that."

On fatherhood:
Tuface who has six kids from different women said it has not been easy, sometimes his work entails a lot of travelling and as such he does not see his kids as often as he wants to and although he had planned to have just one wife and kids, he has accepted things the way they have turned out.

On his kids following his foot steps:
He simply said, "he won't discourage any of his children if they decide to follow in his footsteps musically. As a matter of fact, he'll be a good adviser."

On going back to school:
A good thing though is that Tuface definitely plans to go back to school to get a law degree but he is not certain when that will be.

On why it took so long to settle with his wife Annie:
He said: "I don’t really have an answer to that question, because I don’t know. I can’t explain why I don’t have an answer to that, but somehow, by the grace of God, we are still together."

On the writer of his hit track "African Queen"
He said the song was written by Innocent Idibia (Tuface) and Austin Amedu (Blackface). He gave credit to OJB Jezreel (Production) and kennis Music (Marketing) for the success of the song.

On fame and worth?
Tuface says fame "takes away your privacy and freedom to do some kind of simple, basic things. Like I can’t go to Iya Christopher to sit down and eat amala, the way I dey do before". And as touching money/value, he says, "I never gather, but I dey try."
Tuface has also attributed his journey so far to hard work, his fans and the grace of God.

With all his money and fame, do you think 2Baba should bother to go back to school or chill and enjoy his money?

Nigeria to spend N600billion yearly to attain 300,000km of good road network by 2020 - Mike Onolememen

Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, has said Nigeria requires an estimated N600billion to have paved network that will increase the current 65,000 kilometres of road to over 200,000 by 2020.

The minister stated this at the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria Public Lecture on Road Sector Reform for Sustainable Roads Development.

He said for the nation to move forward, it requires a sustainable economy commensurate with the Vision 20:2020.

“It needs to increase the total road network from the current 200,000 km to about 300,000 km by 2020.

“The paved network will need to increase from the current 65,000 km to over 200,000 by the year 2020.

“This requires the construction or paving of an average 14,000 km of road every year requiring an estimated N600billion per year,” he noted.

Onolememen noted that the nation’s huge investment in road infrastructure has not been with a commensurate attention to the need for maintenance and assets preservation.

He said that as a result of years of neglect, the national road network has been characterised by pavement and structural failures due to inadequate programmed routine and periodic maintenance or total neglect.

The minister, who tasked female engineers to play a crucial role in the new development towards the provision of a sustainable road infrastructure, stressed that a comprehensive reform of the Nigerian roads sector remains a panacea for a sustainable road infrastructure.

According to him, “experience has shown that there is a direct link between economic growth, size and condition of road network and therefore the nexus between road development and economic growth made it imperative for the improvement of road network in new ways, requiring a paradigm change in the institutional structures that will separate policy, regulation, operation and management of roads in pivotal to Road Sector Reform.”

Earlier, President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, Olayinka Ayoyemei Abdul, thanked the minister, assuring that female engineers will in their capacity as friends, companions, mothers and colleagues, do their best towards supporting the ministry in carrying out its mandate.

"When early diagnosis was done, it was just a case of renal failure. Right now, my two kidneys are gone. We are running dialysis at the moment. It started two years ago, but gradually depreciated. Most people tend to attribute kidney problem to drinking and smoking. I was told it doesn't have anything to do with that, because as much as I drink and smoke then, it was casual drinking. Maybe they offer you a bottle of drink and all that but not like I drink 15 bottles a day. I have a friend who has gone through this and he never drank or smoked.

Nigerians and other countries to start paying £3, 000 cash bond before entering UK from November

According to a report by UK Daily Mail, visitors from 'high risk' countries in Africa and Asia will have to put
up a £3,000 cash bond to enter Britain.

The money will be kept by the Government if visitors do not return home by the time their visas expire.

A pilot scheme, introduced by Home Secretary Theresa May, will target hundreds of people coming to Britain on six-month visit visas from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The countries have been picked for their high number of visa applications and what the Government sees as relatively high levels of immigration abuse and fraud, reports the Sunday Times.

The bonds, to be introduced from November, will only apply to non-EU migrants, otherwise they would fall foul of European rights to free movement.

'This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands while still welcoming the brightest and the best to Britain,' Mrs May told the Sunday Times.

'In the long run we’re interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services.'

A second scheme will cover countries such as Kenya, the newspaper reports, which are considered to be lower-risk because immigration officials have fewer doubts about migrants' plans to return home.

About 2.2million people are granted visas to enter Britain every year. Last year 296,000 people from India were granted six-month visas, as were 101,000 from Nigeria, 53,000 from Pakistan and 14,000 apiece from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The Home Secretary plans to reduce annual net migration to under 100,000 by 2015.

Vector at war with his record label, Arrested for Breed of Contract

One of Nigeria's foremost rappers Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector Tha Viper is currently at war with his label, YSG Ent - recently discovered to be a division Young Shall Grow Motors company, led by Obiora Obianodo, (Pictured below) the first son of  Chief Vincent Obianodo, the MD of Young Shall Grow Motors Ltd.

The disagreement between Vector and his label started a few months back after the rapper complained about his progress-rate and the label's nonchalant attitude towards his career and simply suggested more professional hands be employed to help his career, which the label took as a threat, and when they refused to heed to his suggestions, Vector hired hands he was paying personally.

He has been with the label for over four years and never asked to leave, all he asked for according to his camp was more work and results. Things actually got worse after Vector took a self-sponsored vacation to the US and returned to his record boss' anger, claiming he went to the States to sign a record deal.

Weeks after, Vector received and invitation letter from the Commissioner of Police of Lagos state and was summoned to the Area-E command (Festac). On getting there, he was presented with a "breach of contract" petition, claiming that he has engaged external hands to work for him. His parents got involved (as his dad is a retired police officer), and it was settled amicably.

Feeling unsafe and threatened, Vector surrendered the car and apartment provided for him by the label and acquired a replacement for himself. Thinking this was over, Vector went about his daily life (as lawyers were already handling the case) till the 10th of June. He was to be shooting his scene of the Ghetto RMX video by Shank, at his childhood neighbourhood (Mcarthy Barracks, Obalende, Lagos), when men of the police force came to seize him and his personal manager (Michael Umoru) and took them all the way back to Festac, this time it was a proper arrest and they were detained from 3pm till 10pm when his lawyers came through.

According to sources close to Vector, he has been receiving series of personal threats from the label, and he hasn't felt so safe and really did not want to talk to the press about it.

Just yesterday, his twitter account(@vectorYSG) with over 100,000 followers suddenly disappeared, and has been confirmed to be deactivated by his label.

Vectors manager says a new twitter handle @VECTORTHAVIPER has been activated and is now his artistes official handle, alongside the launch of his official Website www.vectorthaviper.com . As at the time of compiling this report, efforts to reach his record label has been abortive

Nigeria Army ban use of Satalite Thuraya phones in Borno State

Nigeria’s military on Wednesday banned the use of satellite phones in Borno state after cutting mobile phone service, further isolating the area after a series of fresh attacks.

The military claimed in announcing the ban that Islamist extremist group Boko Haram had used satellite phones to plan attacks on schools.

The insurgents have attacked two schools in the northeast this week, leaving at least 16 students and two teachers dead.

“Therefore, effective from 19 June 2013, the (military) imposes a ban on the use and sale of Thuraya phones and accessories, including Thuraya recharge cards in Borno state,” said a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa.

Thuraya is a popular brand of satellite phones.

“Anyone seen with Thuraya phones, recharge cards and accessories will be arrested,” the statement said.

It was unclear whether the ban would also apply to journalists, who have used satellite phones to communicate when visiting the region, where the military launched a sweeping offensive on May 15.
The announcement applied to Borno state, the hardest hit in the region, and it was unclear if it would be extended.

Another Baby born with Quran in his hand in Lagos State

Residents from various parts of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have been coming to catch a glimpse of a baby allegedly born with a miniature Quran at 9, Oguntade Street, Shasha area of the state.

Incidents like these are scientifically impossible, but residents of the area say it is true even though some of them confessed that they did not see the baby clutching the miniature Quran, the holy book of the Muslims. They were only told about it.

It took efforts for P.M.NEWS reporters to gain access into the one-room apartment of the baby’s parents as a result of the crowd that took over the place.

The mother of the baby, Kabirat Lamidi, a 32-year old hairstylist, said right from the conception of the baby, she had been sick.

She said when the baby refused to come out after 11 months, she went for a scan where it was shown that she had an object in the womb with the baby.

The Ede, Osun State indigene who said she had been married for 10 years, said she was shocked to discover that few seconds after the baby was delivered, she pushed out a Quran.

“I have been hearing about such incidents and I have always insulted people thinking it could never happen. I believe it is a gift from Allah,” she said.

She said as a Muslim, she was not even dedicated and did not know how to pray, expressing surprise that such an incident could happen to her.

The mother of three said she had always given birth in the hospital but that on this day, she went into labour so fast that she could not move.

“My advice to people is that they should henceforth watch their mouth. I didn’t believe before now,” she said.

Mrs. Saudat Olawuwo, a staff nurse with the Shasha Medical Centre who assisted with the delivery, said she was called by neighbours when the woman was in labour.

Mrs. Olawuwo with 17 years working experience, said the woman was supposed to put to birth on 16 May, but it did not happen.

“By the time I came the day she was in labour, the baby was already coming out. So I assisted her.

“After that, we were expecting the placenta, but the woman began behaving like one about to run mad. I was so confused.

“The woman was shouting that she wanted to push again and all of a sudden, the Quran, wrapped in nylon and stained with blood jumped out.

“Out of confusion, I ran out and called people who came to see. We also called a Muslim cleric around the area who came and prayed for the baby,” she said.

Father of the baby, Luqman Lamidi, said he was in a drinking bar when he was called and told that his wife had delivered a baby with a Quran.

He said he did not believe until he came and saw the Quran covered with blood.

“I arrived home and saw a lot of crowd and could not even enter. In fact, I am surprised that a drunk like me could produce a child that came into this world with a Quran,” he said, adding that he had become a changed person.

Chief Imam of Oguntade, Shasha, Alhai AbdulRafiu Opeloyeru Oyedokun, said he was the one who tore the nylon from the Quran after he was called to the place.

“When I came, people were still doubting if the object was a Quran or not, so I tore the nylon with blood on it publicly and everyone confirmed it.”

As the yet to be named baby boy lay asleep, P.M.NEWS noticed that each time the Quran is placed on his chest, he consistently lifted his hands up and would not drop the hands until the Quran is taken off.

There was a big controversy in May last year following the alleged birth of a baby boy said to be clutching a miniature Holy Quran at birth.

The baby was born at a white garment church in Mushin, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
While some disputed the claim, others said it was possible. A large crowd gathered at 1, Sonde Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos home of the boy’s parents as news of the birth spread rapidly.

His mother, Mrs. Kikelomo Ilori, 32, a Cosmetologist, told P.M.NEWS that he was born after she had carried the pregnancy for about 10 months.

“When my baby was delivered holding a Quran in his hand, the nurse said the Quran should be thrown
away. But I insisted my mother must see it before any action could be taken,” Kikelomo, who is a Christian, further explained.

Corroborating the story, Senior Rev. Victoria Yetunde Dada said during the pregnancy, Kikelomo was always coming to her for prayers and counselling.

“I advised her not to abort the pregnancy because she might die in the process. Again, I told her the foetus was sent by God and will be great,” Apostle Mother Dada told our correspondent.

Reacting, Medical Director of Bodet Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Bode Tawak said scientifically, it was not possible for a baby to be born holding a Quran.

“How big is the baby’s hand to hold the Quran? How big is the Quran? How did the Quran get into her mother’s womb? I don’t know how a Quran can get into a womb. But there are things you can’t explain,” Dr. Tawak responded.

He said while the incident cannot be explained medically, in Nigeria many mysterious things happen.
A Kaduna-based medical practitioner, Dr. Munir Yusuf said from a medical point of view, it was not possible, but added that depending on the size of the Quran, it was possible metaphysically.

He explained that if the Quran is small enough to pass through the diameter of the vagina, with the child, it is possible.

In the same vein, a herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Dr. Bola Adegunloye believes nothing is impossible, but said too much importance must not be placed on the incident.
